How to use Pinterest for your mascot marketing!

If you have a business and a mascot (with a mascot marketing plan), you know how important social media is. You probably already use Facebook, Twitter, and you may blog regularly. Those are all important ways to increase brand awareness and drive web traffic. Using your mascot on these platforms can be an incredibly powerful tool to engage with your fans. There’s another social media platform that has really taken off in recent years and that’s Pinterest.

You may have heard of Pinterest, you may even use it in your personal life to search for recipes, DIY, and collect ideas for your “dream home”, but did you know it’s a powerful tool for internet marketing, and great social channel to showcase your custom mascot?

Many businesses (including us!) use Pinterest as a way to connect with their fans, audience, and followers. There are a few best practices to get the most out of Pinterest; so we'd like to pass them along to you to help you get started.

Begin with your brand

Once you’ve signed up and filled out your profile completely (make sure to include a link to your website in your profile), the next step is to create your first board. Why not name your first board after your business, school, or team name. Pin engaging images with links back to your website, services, and other social media accounts to drive traffic. This is a great place to start pinning images of your mascot and make sure your brand name is easy to see!

Make a board for your mascot in action

Your next board could be a board for all the images you have of your mascot out and about!  Take photos of your mascot in different fun scenarios, and get some actions shots of the mascot engaging with fans ( hugs, high fives etc.). Capturing your mascot participating in events, games, parades, and other community events is great material for your Pinterest page. Read our blog on getting great looking photos of your mascot for some tips with this. Make a habit of taking a camera everywhere your mascot goes, and document events with lots of pictures! The more pins you upload, the more engagement you’ll get from your followers and fans.

Pin other content from your website

If you’re looking to drive traffic to your website, you can use Pinterest for this too! If you have a blog on your website, be sure to pin a link to every single blog post with an engaging image and a good description. Also be sure to pin your website’s landing pages, as well as any downloadable content such as white papers, e-books, or even videos!

Make your website Pinterest friendly

You can add the Pinterest ‘Pin It’ button to images on your website by following these steps. Once you’ve done that, it makes it incredibly easy for your audience and fans to share images of your mascot on their own boards, as well as other interesting things from your website! Make sure to encourage people to share your pins and follow you on Pinterest!

Always provide links

Make sure that on every Pin you create, you are also posting a link back to your website or social media in the description. This ensures that anyone repinning your pins will know where they came from, and your fans can click through to learn more about you.

Engage with Pinterest users

It’s not enough just to create boards and upload your own pins. You should take some time to scour Pinterest for other relevant content. Look for other pins and boards related to your business, and add re-pin their content to your own boards. This gets your name out there, helps to generate followers and clicks, and more people will see your mascot - and your business! You can contribute to other relevant public/community boards too! The more active you are on Pinterest, the more people will see your page!

These tips should help you get started on Pinterest and make the most of this powerful tool. If you’ve already started driving your business engagement with a quality custom mascot, make sure to include Pinterest in your social media plan.
