Facebook is a powerful social media platform to use as part of your mascot program. If you represent a business, organization, or school, you’re likely already using Facebook to stay connected with your audience and fans, and promote events and products. If you have a mascot, you can also create a separate fan page for them to really get the most out of Facebook and engage with your fans and customers!

Make a Facebook page For Your Mascot, Mascto Marketing 101 by Bam MascotsA great example of a successful mascot Facebook page is  Skipper the Starfish. Skipper is Star Line Mackinac Island Ferry's mascot. Star Line has done a fantastic job with their Facebook page. They post pictures of him as an animated character in different scenarios, a plush version of him constantly getting into light-hearted trouble, as well as the full custom mascot version (created by Bam) taking part in various events and interacting with guests and fans.

It only takes a few minutes of looking through Skipper's page to see how well fans engage and respond to various posts. So how can you create a similar page and Facebook marketing campaign for your own mascot? It’s easy to get started, with just 3 simple steps!

  1. Create Your Page. You can scroll to the bottom left hand menu of your newsfeed to find the “create a page” button, or you can click here! Choose the type of page you’d like. Skipper’s page has been created as a “fictional character” which you can select under the “Artist, Band, or Public Figure” tab.
  2. Fill it Out.Make sure to write your mascot’s bio, and take a nice profile picture! Add links back to your main website or Facebook page.
  3. Post & Promote! Take a lot of photos of your mascot in different fun situations (click here to read our blog post on taking great photos of your mascot!), write fun captions, and ask questions to engage your fans. Be sure to let your fans know that your mascot has a Facebook page and that it is updated regularly.

hatsskipper.jpgYou can create a social media calendar for when to post and what types of posts you want to prepare, or you can post on the fly every day depending on what’s happening, as long as you're consistent. Consistent posts in terms of quality and quantity, with good images and engaging captions will make sure your Facebook page is successful!
